Project Challenges
Conventional cold storage column grids are too small, limiting rack layout, forklift access, and future automation. Expansion joints, beam depth, and insulation area increase construction cost and operational energy consumption. Structural, insulation, racking, and operational efficiency must be coordinated at the design stage.
Proposed Solution
Adopted the Taiku product system: large-span post-tensioned flat slab structure with post-tensioned flat anchorage system. Wider column spacing reduces column count, increasing usable storage volume by approximately 20%. Each floor height reduced by 60–80 cm compared to traditional beam-and-slab schemes, saving insulation material and lowering overall construction cost by 10%–20%. Precompression from post-tensioning mitigates thermal shrinkage stresses, controlling deflection and cracking.
Technical Implementation
In 2023, as the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan entered a critical phase under China's dual-carbon goals, the cold chain logistics industry has been evolving rapidly. Against this backdrop, Huangshanghuang Group's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology smart manufacturing demonstration project—'Annual output of 20,000 tons of refined tea oil and by-product deep processing, and 100,000 tons cold chain logistics distribution center'—has drawn significant industry attention. As a specialist in post-tensioned building structures, BICP (Beijing Yintai JianGou Technology Co., Ltd.) was selected to deliver the post-tensioned solution for the project's cold storage #2. The project is located in Huangshanghuang Prepared Food Industrial Park on Hongzhou Avenue, Nanchang, Jiangxi. The designer is Huashang International Engineering Co., Ltd. BICP provided large-span post-tensioned cold storage solution, detailed design, and post-tensioned specialty construction services. The total site area is 171,444 m², with a planned GFA of 245,752.46 m². Cold storage #2 measures 138.80 m × 59.40 m in plan, with a column grid of 11.6 m × 10.8 m, seven stories, and a maximum floor height of 9.4 m. Through close communication with the client, BICP recommended the Taiku product system—a large-span post-tensioned flat slab structure with post-tensioned flat anchorage system—to ensure high-quality project delivery. The advantages and value of the Taiku system include: (1) Wider column spacing significantly reduces the number of columns, facilitating rack layout and forklift operations, maximizing storage efficiency, and increasing usable storage volume by approximately 20%. (2) Compared to traditional waffle slab schemes, the Taiku system reduces floor height by 60–80 cm per level under the same clear height. The flat soffit minimizes insulation surface area, improves airflow, enhances refrigeration efficiency, and reduces construction time and formwork costs, achieving a 10%–20% reduction in overall construction cost. (3) The precompression from post-tensioning reduces thermal shrinkage stresses, better controls deflection and cracking, and improves durability. As a provider of low-carbon and digital construction solutions, BICP is committed to the research and application of innovative low-carbon structural technologies. The Taiku product system has been certified by six government departments, demonstrating clear technical and value advantages. Moving forward, BICP will continue to fulfill its mission of 'Digital Foundation, Quality Construction' by advancing low-carbon structural innovation to support energy savings, emission reduction, and cost efficiency in the construction industry.
