Airbus Full-Lifecycle Aircraft Service Project: Post-Tensioned Integrated Floor System Approved by European Airbus Expert Delegation
The post-tensioned integrated floor system covers approximately 25,000 m² with a single bay area of 7,000 m². It passed review by the European Airbus expert delegation, effectively improving floor overload capacity and recovery, reducing cracking, and lowering operational maintenance costs.
Project Overview
- Location
- Shuangliu District, Chengdu, China
- Scenario
- Industrial Facilities
- Client
- Airbus
- General Contractor
- China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co., Ltd.
- Designer
- China Aviation Industry Planning and Design Institute (AVIC-CAPDI)
- BICP Role
- Provided systematic post-tensioned integrated floor system detailed design and participated in technical exchange and scheme review.
- Key Conditions
- Located in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, this full-lifecycle aircraft service project comprises office support areas, aircraft disassembly and maintenance areas, and aircraft parking areas. The hangar floor experiences high and diverse loads with complex geological conditions, demanding high technical difficulty and quality. The post-tensioned integrated floor system covers approximately 25,000 m², with a single bay area of 7,000 m².
Project Challenges
Traditional industrial floors have numerous saw cuts and construction joints, leading to joint edge damage that affects forklift, AGV operations, and production continuity. In clean, heavy-load, high-frequency traffic scenarios, high flatness, durability, and low maintenance are critical. The floor solution must consider load conditions, soil conditions, production organization, and lifecycle maintenance.
Proposed Solution
Adopted a post-tensioned integrated floor system that reduces saw cuts by 80%, minimizing joint edge damage, dust, stepping, and production disruptions from maintenance. Achieved a single bay area of 7,000 m² with minimal joints, enhancing overload capacity and recovery, reducing cracking, improving durability, and lowering operational maintenance costs.
Technical Implementation
Recently, a technical exchange meeting on the post-tensioned integrated floor system for the Airbus Full-Lifecycle Aircraft Service Project was held at the project office of China Construction Third Engineering Bureau. The meeting was chaired by the China Aviation Industry Planning and Design Institute (AVIC-CAPDI). BICP General Manager Xu Xiaolong and Chief Engineer Wang Tao attended to address questions from the European Airbus expert delegation regarding the technical scheme's challenges and long-term maintenance.
Located in Shuangliu District, Chengdu, the Airbus full-lifecycle service project broke ground in July 2022. It is Airbus's first full-lifecycle aircraft service project outside Europe, consisting of office support areas, aircraft disassembly and maintenance areas, and aircraft parking areas. The post-tensioned integrated floor system covers approximately 25,000 m², making it one of the largest applications of post-tensioned integrated floors in China's civil aviation sector. BICP was responsible for providing the systematic detailed design of the post-tensioned integrated floor system.
The hangar floor faces high and diverse loads, complex geological conditions, high technical difficulty, and stringent quality requirements. Addressing these challenges, BICP collaborated closely with AVIC-CAPDI to deliver a post-tensioned integrated floor with minimal joints, achieving a single bay area of 7,000 m². This design enhances the floor's overload capacity and recovery, reduces cracking, improves durability, and lowers operational maintenance costs. After a full day of discussion, the scheme received approval from the European Airbus expert delegation.
Building on extensive experience in post-tensioned structural engineering, BICP has developed a series of 'BICP Next-Generation Post-Tensioned Integrated Solutions' aimed at enhancing the functionality and cost-effectiveness of specific building types. Our products cover underground garages, logistics warehouses, cold chain warehouses, high-rise buildings, integrated floors, super-long buildings, wind turbine towers, and electronic factories. BICP has participated in the design and construction of over 500 post-tensioned projects across more than 20 provinces in China, as well as in Australia, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
